In chess, each player controls 16 pieces divided into two colours: black and white. The player has a set number of pieces of each type: a king, a queen, two bishops, two knights, two rooks and eight pawns, which are placed on predetermined locations on the board at the beginning of the game. It is composed of 64 boxes, 32 light and 32 dark.
The objective of the game is to checkmate the king; in other words, corner your rival’s king in such a way that they have no move possible to save themselves from being eaten. A piece is recognised as captured when you attack the player's piece, by moving one of your pieces to the position that your opponent occupies.
